Greek police threw tear gas to disperse a crowd of demonstrators who hurled firebombs in a march toward the U.S. Embassy compound in Athens on Wednesday in a protest over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
According to the police, rioters attacked officers at the Embassy, throwing firebombs, rocks and other objects. They also lit fires in garbage bins while the police were trying to keep the protesters back.
Seven people were held for questioning as a realist of the incident.
Earlier, some 3,000 people marched peacefully through Syntagma Square in downtown Athens to the U.S. Embassy. The main slogans to be heard in this anti-racism, anti-fascist rally were Floyd ‘s last words “I Can’t Breathe” and “Black Lives Matter.”
